3 Tips for a Nutritious Summer

Especially on those hot summer days, it’s important to make sure your kids are drinking enough water to replace what they sweat. Make sure to stop them for plenty of water breaks, and steer away from sugary sodas which can actually dehydrate the body. An easy way to add some fun to water is to make ice cubes out of watermelon.

…is breakfast! True, summertime is for sleeping in or rushing off to fun activities in the morning. But having a healthy breakfast sets you and your family up for success for the rest of the day. Without thinking, you kids can slip in a lot of salt, sugar, artificial colors, and other nasties when they enjoy their favorite summer snacks. But a little preparation can help save you from this trap. When packing for a trip to the pool or beach, some healthy snacks are fruits and veggies, or nuts if there are no allergies of course. These are simple, nutrient rich, and require no additional prep. But if you think the idea of bringing carrot sticks to the pool will take all the fun out of summer, then keep this in mind. It’s okay to enjoy a treat here and there, as long as you keep healthy eating as the priority.
